The Value of Application Service Governance for Cloud Computing

Use the SOA model to create governance and security strategies for the Cloud

Use the SOA model to create governance and security strategies for the Cloud

Application service governance – also known as SOA governance – is directly applicable to Cloud computing. Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is usually defined as a set of distributed services, which can be located on-premise or in the Cloud. Therefore, SOA is at the core of all Cloud computing.

SOA governance makes it possible to define, control and monitor the execution of services across organizational boundaries and into the Cloud. Governance removes a significant amount of risk by allowing systems managers to proactively deal with issues before they start bringing down services and – consequently – bringing down systems.

Failing to implement SOA governance practices will greatly diminish the value Cloud computing offers an organization. However, implementing SOA governance in a piecemeal, ad-hoc fashion will also diminish the value of Cloud services. To ensure a successful move into the Cloud, it is crucial to comprehensively implement proven SOA governance technologies.
