Layer 7 Launches New Cloud Security, Connectivity and Management Solutions

Enables Enterprises and Service Providers to Better Govern Consumption and Delivery of Cloud Services

NEW YORK – CLOUD EXPO (Booth 230) April 19, 2010 – Layer 7 Technologies, the leader in security and management for Web and cloud services, today announced the general availability of its new CloudSpan™ family of products for enterprises and service providers.

These three first-of-a-kind products help address critical connectivity, security and delivery needs of both consumers and providers of cloud services. Layer 7 will be demonstrating its new products at booth #230 at the 5th International Cloud Conference & Expo, being held this week at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York.

The Layer 7 CloudSpan cloud broker suite is designed to remove critical adoption barriers for cloud consumers and providers wanting to access cloud services more easily, run applications safely in the cloud or publish APIs and programmatic services to clients, partners and developers. Each of Layer 7’s CloudSpan products addresses a critical need for cloud computing:

  • CloudConnect: serves as an organization’s gateway to the cloud. Using a combination of access control, secure integration and aggregated usage tracking, Layer 7 CloudConnect makes it possible for enterprises to create a secure channel to SaaS providers. www.Layer7tech.com/CloudConnect
  • CloudProtect: provides security in the cloud. Layer 7 CloudProtect helps enterprises establish secure perimeters around each cloud application (virtual private applications), ensuring data isolation and central policy control. www.Layer7tech.com/CloudProtect
  • CloudControl: gives service providers the ability to manage and control how their cloud services get published to clients, partners and developers. With Layer 7 CloudControl, service providers can secure, manage and orchestrate how third parties invoke their provisioning and application APIs. www.Layer7tech.com/CloudControl

"As cloud computing evolves, one inescapable reality continues to surface: As with service-oriented architecture before it, cloud computing promotes the idea of continuous proliferation of services (in this case, cloud services)," according to Daryl Plummer, managing vice president and chief Gartner Fellow, and co-author of a recent report on cloud brokerages. "Unfortunately, using services created by others and ensuring that they'll work — not only separately, but also together — are complicated tasks with data integration issues, integrity problems and the need for relationship management. The future of cloud computing will be permeated with the notion of brokers negotiating relationships between providers of cloud services and the service consumers."

"The cloud offers abundant opportunities for both providers and users of services, but concerns about connectivity, security and control often outweigh the benefits," said Phil Walston, Layer 7’s vice president of development and product management. "Layer 7’s CloudSpan suite addresses critical cloud connectivity, security and management issues, thereby helping enterprises and service providers get better ROI from their cloud investment."

The CloudSpan suite of products is generally available immediately. For more information and pricing, please send an email to sales@layer7tech.com.
